Self-publishing isn’t easier, it isn’t the easy way out of traditional publishing. It’s hard work, especially when you are starting out and you just don’t know what you don’t know. No doubt I will make a number of mistakes on this journey as I put myself and my work out there for the public to read, as I expand my readership from a few close family and friends, who read every draft, to a wider audience of strangers.
When I wrote Love in the Fast Lane I wanted to do the world of F1 justice, I wanted to encompass everything that I love about it, from the highs to the lows. To highlight every facet of it from the glamour to the danger. In doing so, I took inspiration from a real event to write a scene that for me came from a good place, from a want to honour the driver in question. It was a nod to him and his life, and a tribute. However, for some it didn’t come across that way. I understand that we all view the world differently and that writing is subjective. It was written with good intentions and in no way meant to harm or offend.
I’ve sat on this for a while and focused on what it meant for the wider audience and in the end, felt it was better to change the scene in question. There are now no blurred lines or confusion as the entire novel is fictional and differs from the real events that took place. I hope you still enjoy the book and look forward to releasing more of the Love in the Fast Lane series.
