This post was requested on my Instagram so here goes. Honestly, Social Media is hard work and it takes up a lot of my time. Therefore I like to streamline it as much as possible and get it organised and shot well in advance.
As a general rule, I take one day (sometimes split over two) a month to plan and produce all of my content, this includes, IG posts & reels, Tiktok Videos & my blog posts.
To start with I came up with a "strategy" I'm using this loosely because I'm not expert but basically wrote down some topics that I wanted to talk about on my social media that revolved around writing/books. That gives me the initial idea for each post.
I have a very detailed excel spreadsheet that is set up for the month which I fill in slowly. Starting with my initial post ideas, on the days I've decided to post (I do 3 posts a week and three reels on IG, Tiktok one a day and blog twice a week). Once that's down I have a look through Pinterest and my saved IG posts for ideas of imagery and reels.
I spend around two to three hours setting up and shooting content. I have to do this when Chris is around to look after the kids because apparently one year olds like to destroy every set up I have and rock the tripod!
Once the content is all shot, I spend a couple of hours editing it. Cropping the photos and adjusting the filter and editing the film clips into the reels. This part is quite time consuming, especially for the reels but at least I can do this whilst hanging out the family.
Finally, although i could schedule these posts, I like to post them on the day because then it stays somewhat consistent with my stories and matches my mood of the day. I write my captions in my notes app then copy and paste with the photo/video I pre-shot.
And that's how I plan my social media. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination and there are plenty of people you can follow on social media who give great tips. (Jenn from Mixtus Media is a great one for Authors).
How do you plan yours or do you wing it?
